No time for much of a post today, but my simple winter decor is making me smile and I just wanted to share. Above is a small winter village. We usually bring out some of our lighted houses after the Christmas tree comes down. The tree stands in this spot where the pine chest and village are now.
Above, my February sampler. Love it!
Above, two free printables framed and displayed in the front hallway.
Probably my favorite decorating spot is atop a bookcase in a corner of the living room. The runner, which has sparkling silver threads in it, was handwoven by my friend Patty. The little deer is actually a candle holder from my childhood. The crewel skater was stitched by me in the 1970s. The cardinal is a keepsake I found in a kitchen drawer at my childhood home, the pitcher a thrift store find. Tag and beaded heart made by me.
A corner of the garland over our picture window. Always snowflakes and icicles for the winter. The pretty Christmas balls were hand-painted by granddaughter Julia.
The opposite corner. A chickadee and cardinal have flown onto the garland!
Two shelves of my dining room hutch. Another very favorite place to decorate!
The topmost shelf. Bottle brush trees in Colonial Homestead teacups. I have had the pine cone teapot for years, but this is the first time I've thought to put it on the hutch.
Above is a corner of the lowest shelf of my hutch. That is a 1950s Christmas card, a sketch of a local lakeside barn. Even though the card is old and discolored, I love it. The barn is still standing and still beautiful.
Icicles on one of our dormers. Aren't those pretty rings of ice amazing and beautiful!? I can't take credit for this bit of "decorating" though -- all glory to God!
I like the little village!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandi! I think I have at least four more buildings, but we chose to put out only these this year. They are my favorites.
DeleteI love all of this, and especially the icicles! We don't get to see those here in Florida. I love that you keep up winter decor through the winter months there. I love your little village...you have some beautiful buildings! And everything else was truly special and beautiful...the garland is lovely with the extra touches. Here in Florida our winter is so short that I find myself reluctantly changing decor over to spring usually in February, but if I lived up north where it is still so cold and wintry, I would love to keep it looking that way! Thank you for sharing your beautiful winter things with us. I enjoyed this. And thank you for your comment on my foody post. I responded over there to your comment about the memories you shared that also triggered similar memories for me! We both had mothers who were good cooks!
ReplyDeleteThe buildings in my village are from all different sources. We bought them all on clearance over the years, and one or two were gifts. The ones we put out this year are my top favorites.
DeleteYes, it seems as if our mothers were both good cooks and that they did the same kind of home cooking!
I love all the decorating (yours and the Lords!) and especially love how so much of it has history. I know that brings you joy! I had one of those free printables framed in my family room but, apparently, I did not pull out that frame this year. Hopefully that ice will be gone soon, along with our snow, and it will be time for some hints of spring decorating:)
ReplyDeleteYes, things with history do bring me joy. It's just a blessing to me to see God's faithfulness in the continuity of seasons, and that is why seasonal decorating is something I enjoy so much.
DeleteIn a month or so I will be decorating for maple sugaring season!
Thank you for sharing pictures of your decorations, Mrs. T. I love that you decorate for the rest of winter after the Christmas tree has come down. I tend to clear the decks as quickly as I can, but we did enjoy a lit ceramic Christmas tree until just Monday of this week - but mostly because I kept forgetting to put it away. I enjoyed seeing your sweet things that hold special memories for you. And I love your February sampler!
ReplyDeleteI remember how my parents enjoyed their little ceramic Christmas tree. My dad would make a point of turning it on each evening throughout the winter.
DeleteI have made a December and January sampler as well, but don't plan to make other months. I mainly wanted some special things for winter. For some reason I am really drawn to winter projects.
