Four and five

So I am going to try and answer questions 4 and 5 from this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce and the gang at From This Side of the Pond.  It seems harder and harder to find time to answer six questions, but occasionally I can answer a couple of them.

4. Where do you typically work (or blog if that's easier) at home? Do you have a dedicated home office space? Are you happy with that space?

I'm "retired" but I do a lot of writing.  Blogging as much as possible, and also typing up Sunday School lessons, etc.  And writing descriptions for my Etsy shop listings.  I can blog from my laptop (and often do) but I do have a dedicated space where I work on my desktop computer.  For Sunday School lessons I typically use the desktop so I can print them out easily.  For Etsy listings I will use the desktop most times because a) most of my items waiting to be listed are in or near this room; b) this is where the scanner is, and I scan paper treasures rather than photographing them.

And no, I am not happy with this space.  I'm content with it, but not happy about it.  There are bookshelves in this room, floor to ceiling, and the closet is loaded with craft supplies and seasonal decor.  I keep packaging for Etsy listings in this space as well, which makes perfect sense, but it all takes up space.  I need to organize this space much better and probably get rid of at least half the books.

Below are some of the fun things I've recently listed on Etsy (link in sidebar).

5. Snow drops, daffodils, lenten roses, crocus, hyacinth, or early tulips...what's your favorite early Spring flower?

Oh, tough question.  Probably crocus because that's the first one we tend to see.  Or, in the wildflower garden, the first would be bloodroot.  For sheer beauty, though, I would pick daffodils.

And just like that, questions four and five answered!  It was so much fun!

  1. It's a challenge for me to get all the questions answered every week too, so I enjoyed reading the ones you picked out to focus on today. I think "content" would describe my feelings about my current space as well. Love those cards you've shared! And the flower photos - gorgeous! Have a great week!

  2. You sound very organised with how and where you work. What beautiful cards and pretty flowers. My favourites are daffodils.

    1. Not as organized as I'd like to be, Kim! It's a work in progress.

  3. The bloodroot is so pretty. I don't know if I've ever seen that one growing. I love all the spring flowers and love the variety especially. Have a great day!

    1. Bloodroot does grow in the Carolinas as well as here. Here's a web address to learn more if you are so inclined: https://ncwildflower.org/puccoon-ponderings-and-bloodroot-blooming/. The blossoms only last a few days. They are so pretty when the sun is shining, but roll themselves up into little cylinders on gray cold days. The leaves last well into the summer, so you've probably seen the leaves and not known what they were.

  4. Oh, I love your little vintage cards. They are so sweet. And I wish I could see some real daffodils here. They don't grow in Florida, so we can only get them in pots when they are available, but they don't last long. I do have a designated office space, and it's rather "crowded" too, but I enjoy the space, and enjoy the view out my window while I write at my desktop computer. Hope you are enjoying these last winter days. It's 90 degrees here today, but it's going to get chilly again next week, down in the 40's-50's again! Crazy! But it is still winter after all!! Have a lovely week.

  5. I'm seeing the beginnings of irises here, and the leaves of the daylilies are growing. And I THINK... as I was driving away from my house earlier today I saw (through the rain) some forsythia blooms. We've had crazy warm weather this week (in the 70's), but by this evening the winds had blown in temps in the 30's. I don't really mind. I don't want it to heat up too quickly because then I'll be moaning about how hot it is. ;^)

    1. Forsythia! How lovely! I expect it'll be at least another month until we see that here!

  6. Those first blossoms of spring really do bring joy, don't they? And are so often associated with good memories. I love that photo of little Emily. My daughter is also an Emily...and I love an old photo I have of her trying to crawl across the yard to get to the pansies...but not wanting to put her knees on the grass! Too cute:)

  7. Oh how sweet that your daughter is Emily and my granddaughter is Emily. The old photo of your Emily trying to crawl to the pansies without getting her knees on the grass ... what a sweet memory. So glad you have a photo of it!
