This will be a brief post as life continues very busy for me. But I thought I would share the pretty peonies in our backyard. That is, this is how they looked last week. Now, they are going by. But thankfully Mr. T snapped a few pictures while they were at their best.
I can never forget my elderly friend Peggy who gave me a small peony plant she had dug up from her yard -- when she moved to a smaller place, if I remember right. She cautioned me to be sure it was not planted too deep. We did follow her instructions, but honestly, I have a brown thumb (if not black) and had little hope for the plant's survival, never mind its blooming.
But it did -- first one or two blossoms, then each year a few more appear. We are always happy to see them!
Peonies seem to be everywhere in New England this time of year. Hope you have enjoyed this look at our pretty pink specimens.

Your peonies are just beautiful and I'm sure your little friend would be so proud you remembered her advice. We have one peony bush that blooms with white flowers. They are really so beautiful. Thanks for popping in to see me.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Thanks, Shelia! Yes, my dear little friend Peggy is now enjoying the glories of heaven including, I imagine, many beautiful flowers and plants. Her advice was good and it's been so nice to see those peonies blooming a little more each year. Indeed they are a beautiful flower.
DeleteMy visit to your blog was a delight as miniatures have always fascinated me. You are doing such a great job with the pieces you have made!
So pretty Mrs T!! And I know they bring joy to you as you have been so busy with life. My flowers are not fairing so well. The heat here is not good for them...even with the sprinklers running everything is looking sad.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Arlene! You are right, the perennials do bring me joy in the midst of the business of life. I'm not much of a gardener, so plants that tend to themselves are my favorites!
DeleteSorry to hear that your flowers are not faring as well this year. Hope you will get some rain soon. We got some much needed rain overnight here.
Your peonies are gorgeous...a beautiful rich rose color. Mine are white with a buttercream center. I had all of three blooms...must be doing something wrong after all these years.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vee! They are a gorgeous color, aren't they? But white with a buttercream center sounds lovely, too. Even three blooms is better than none, right? I wouldn't be too quick to assume it's a misstep on your part. I think peonies can be sort of finicky. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteOh, I do love peonies, in any colour! Yours are such a pretty shade too. I'm glad the bush grew for you and I know your friend would be pleased. I imagine the fragrance is lovely. Pity they don't bloom longer, isn't it? I'm so glad you shared your posies with us. Have a lovely July 4th weekend, my friend.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
I love peonies, too, Sandi, and so enjoy seeing them in the yards and gardens in New Hampshire every summer. Yes, it is indeed too bad they don't bloom for a longer period.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the 4th of July wishes! Hope you have a lovely Canada Day as well!
Dear Mrs T>:
ReplyDeleteI think your peonies are so wonderful as mine are all gone. I think next year they will be better in year #2. I love the deep pink ones you are sharing. Thanks for sharing and linking!

Wow, Bernideen! Thank you! That is very exciting news indeed. So happy that you enjoyed seeing my deep pink peonies. It's always so interesting to see how many blossoms we end up with each year!
