The Wednesday Medley for May 15

So it's Wednesday again, and time for the Wednesday Medley hosted by Terri at Your Friend from Florida.  This week's Medley has a rather interesting, even historic, theme, as it's National Nylon Stocking Day.  (Also National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, which I find even more interesting!)  So why not head over to Terri's and get the the questions to answer them on your own blog?

1.  Do you (men don't have to answer) ever wear stockings today?
Yes, if that includes pantyhose. I know the trend is for bare legs even in cold weather, but honestly?  Just my opinion, but I just think hose looks nicer with dressier outfits.  I'm not blaming this opinion on my age; I truly think it looks more classy.
2.  Terri can remember her mom wearing hose with the seam in the back.  Do you have any memories of those?  During the war, when stockings were scarce, women would draw a line on their legs to simulate wearing stockings!  How far would you go to superficially fake something today?

I do remember nylons with seams.  My mother wore them.  Straightening one's seams was done routinely before going out.  By the time I started wearing them, the seamless nylons had come in.

I don't think I would go to any lengths to superficially fake something.  Case in point: I don't color my hair.
3.  Women actually rioted after WWII because Dupont couldn't keep up with the demand for nylon stockings!  Is there anything today you would riot for if the supply dried up (other than basic food and water needs)?
I have never seen rioting as a viable solution to anything.
4.  Pantyhose were first called Panty Legs.  I'm sure we all have worn pantyhose at one time or another (again, men don't have to answer). Do you still have a pair or three in a drawer?  Do you wear them?
I do have a half-dozen pairs in my top drawer and I do wear them, mostly to church and for other dressier occasions. They are far preferable to the nylons and garter belt of my early teen years.
5.  This is also National Chocolate Chip Day.  Perhaps chocolate is something to riot for if we ran out?  Joe's favorite cookie is chocolate chip.  What is yours?
I would be hard-pressed to choose a favorite cookie.  Perhaps a frosted brownie. Or -- these Sacher Torte Cookies are fabulous Christmas cookies that are delicious for any occasion!
6.  Please share something with us about your week.

It's cold here in New Hampshire ... some areas had snow last night and there's the possibility of snow again tonight.  It's been a very odd, mostly cold and rainy spring.  Trees are barely leafing out, and the usual spring wildflowers are slow to appear.  The forsythia and daffodils have bloomed, though, and thanks to the cool weather they are still beautiful here.

  2. I am with you on pantyhose. I can't imagine freezing my legs off because you wouldn't put on a pair. I am not fond of the feeling when wearing them, but legs look better. All the young girls now do not wear them. I had hoped when Princess Kate started wearing them they would come back in vogue with the young girls. They just look more polished to me:) Wishing you some spring weather soon.

    1. I did notice at church that although most of the young girls had bare legs (and some wore longer skirts so you couldn't tell), there was one young mom wearing heels and hose. She looked so classy! I thought of Princess Kate right away. Much more of a polished look.

Still cool and damp here with the occasional breakthrough of sun!

    1. It's okay, Judy. The cooler weather means no black flies, at least for awhile.

  4. Mrs.T, no gloss on lips or blush on cheeks? No spritz of perfume? No 💄? I remember actually wearing those seamed hose once...just once...worst things ever. I no longer wear pantyhose as I no longer wear skirts or dresses, but I still buy them from time to time because they are perfect for all sorts of household purposes. I cut them into one or two inch rings and use them for binding cords, etc. Now even a man could bend his head around that!

Fun post. I am far more interested in chocolate chip cookie day myself.

    1. Vee, you're right, of course. I do use blush on my cheeks for I am completely pale without it. Occasionally some mascara and/or a dab of eyeshadow. I used to use perfume a lot more than I do now. I tend to think of those things as tiny enhancements, though, not fakery.

I also have a far greater interest in chocolate chip cookie day, and I might just celebrate by baking some, but think I am out of vanilla.

    1. Hopefully things will warm up enough for swimming while your daughter's exchange student is still here. It definitely does seem like an unseasonably colder month of May.

Thanks for visiting and enjoy your weekend!

  6. Some places here in southwestern PA saw a few snow flurries mixed with the rain yesterday morning. I am hoping that was the last of winter. The cookies look delicious, though I have to confess you had me with that link at the top to rhubarb recipes. I love rhubarb!
