Loon Nest Live Cam

The Loon Preservation Committee (which produced the info sheet above) has a web cam live in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire right now.  The camera is watching over a loon pair that is incubating two eggs.  [Edited to add: the first chick has hatched.  So cute!]

Go here to access it: Loon Web Cam.  Or you can also watch on YouTube.

It's fascinating to watch, so enjoy!  I have it on full screen on my computer right now.  It's like being there!

  1. Well that was just like being there...incessant barking from a nearby dog, which seemed to disturb the loon as it began to protest...wonderful to see the loon up close that way. My daughter adores loons and has often decorated in a way that proves it. She once lived on a lake just to be where the loons are.

  2. Isn't it amazing, Vee? We saw a loon nest from afar when we visited The Loon Center a couple of years ago, but it was one in which the eggs had not hatched. So fun to see this one up close and now the one chick has actually hatched! Send this link to your daughter!

    1. I see him! He's pretty dozy and yawning. My, how far away are those men? One can hear them so plainly. I am pretty sure that he had not hatched when I was first here...I missed it!

    2. I know, they sound awfully close. But then, sound really carries across water.

The chick has been in and out from under the parent. So glad you were able to see him!😊

  3. Back to see how baby was doing...he's eating and appears to be grooming his mother. Those men need to watch their mouths...such language for the loons to have to hear.

    1. I know. I was thinking the same thing. Not to mention the families that are trying to watch this and may be getting more of an educational experience than they planned on!😕

That's the world we live in, sadly enough...

    2. I had to watch for quite a while this morning before catching a glimpse of the chick...thought he might be off having a swim. A hymn comes to mind after finally seeing him...Under His wings, my soul shall abide, safely abide forever.

    3. I love that hymn .... one of my very favorites! It's been interesting watching the parents tuck the baby under their wings at times. Such a great picture of God's love and care for us!

  5. Back again...the Loon family is swimming and doing some of the calling, too, which was lovely to hear. The wind picked up and I think I hear distant thunder. I'll be back to look for the second chick.

  6. Yes, beautiful to watch and listen to. I think I may have been mistaken in thinking the second chick was pecking its way out. It sure looked like a hole to me. Then one of the parents returned and it looked as if he/she was turning the egg. Sat on it for awhile and now the parents and baby are out swimming again. Know it's very possible that the egg is not viable or that the second chick won't make it, but I hope for the best!

Thunderstorms and possible flash flooding predicted for here today. You, too?

  7. We had a little thunder and lightning and some heavy rain. My hubby's jobsite in southwestern NH had torrential rain and actual flooding, so they will not be working there tomorrow. What weather!
