1. Expect the unexpected on From This Side of the Pond. Here's my x-ray
question...when was the last time you felt like Superman? What's your
superpower? Explain.
Hmmm .... I was going to say the last time I felt like Superman, it was when I neatly used up leftovers and made a second good meal out of them. Like most of us, I am cooking more these days and I am also really trying to make a point not to waste food. It's always nice when we can make a delicious meal in the process.
But the last time I really felt like Superman was a week ago Sunday when I transformed a raspberry muffin recipe into a scrumptious coffeecake and got this response from my hubby: "Lady, you're a wonder!" The fact is, really, I am just lazy. A coffeecake takes a bit longer to bake than muffins do, but think of the time saved when one is not spooning batter into muffin cups -- and then later, a square baking pan is much easier to clean than a muffin tin. This weekend I tried the recipe again with a really delicious modification, which I hope to share later this week.
I usually have a pretty good sense of what will work and not work with a recipe, and I've been known to change up a recipe the very first time I make it. I can't accurately call this a superpower, of course; I don't really believe that humans have superpowers. This particular aptitude is more the product of a lifetime of cooking and baking; just experience with a dash of creativity. It's fun, too!
And so is helping numerous grandkids to become superheros over the years.
That coffee cake looks so pretty and I bet it was delicious as well. I could not help but think of all the capes you have made over the years! I always enjoyed seeing your grands wearing them.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy seeing them wear them too, Arlene! I even had a superhero photo put on a Shutterfly shopping bag, and I carry it proudly! In fact, I still have several more I need to make if life will slow down a bit. (I know, for many people it has, but my project goes on!)
DeleteOh sneaky, you're going to save that for later. It sure does look good. Glad that you're sharing your super powers, spreading them around. That pic of your super-somebody grandson is adorable.
ReplyDeleteI plan to post the recipe, hopefully on Thursday, Vee. In the meantime, send one of your personal shoppers for some unsweetened frozen raspberries and some lemon curd. Pecans too, if you don't have them on hand. Ocean State Job Lot often has wonderful Scottish lemon curd for a pittance.
DeleteYes, that is Super Gromit. Darrin was then, and still is (he will be 14 in September) a huge fan of Wallace & Gromit.
I loved this post! The cake really does look beautiful, and I giggled at the thought of your husband saying that to you. How sweet. And the hero cape on a grandchild, I presume, makes me smile even more. I had a superpower moment yesterday. You may have just given me reason to write a blog post. ;^)
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you enjoyed the post, Becki!
ReplyDeleteYes, the coffee cake turned out so good. As I told Vee above, I hope to post the recipe on Thursday. We will see!
Yes, that is Super Gromit above, and a whole array of superhero grandkids in the photo at top of the post. They did a photo shoot the last time the NV kids were all out here in 2015.
Now I will be looking forward to your blog post. Can't wait to read about your superpower moment!
Oh, somehow I missed the very first picture. I LOVE it! What a great picture of all your super grandchildren.
DeleteOH, I bet that coffee cake was scrumptious! I love it when something like that comes together, and I agree, a coffee cake is easier than muffins, and tastes just as good!! I like to go for the easy way most of the time. Your grandkids are very blessed to have a "Super Grandma" to make them "Super Power" costumes for any occasion. What a joy for all!!!
