February frost patterns

This past weekend, Mr. T noticed these pretty frost patterns on an upstairs storm door.

To me, they look like a bunch of small flowers, perhaps impatiens, clustered together. All in white, of course!

This is a clearer photo. Aren't they pretty?

"By the breath of God frost is given, and the breadth of the waters is straitened." (Job 37:10)

  1. Since being in the camper we don't really have any large windows for frost to form, but often the little kitchen window above the sink will be all patterned with frost. Very pretty and seems they are always a little different. Some look like feathers, some like leaves, some are like you describe here... little flowers all bunched together.

It must have been quite cold last night, 'cause my dishcloth which I had hanging over the faucet in the kitchen sink was frozen. Neither one of us noticed how cold it must have been during the night, but the water was frozen for a bit this morning... nothing serious though.

Waiting (a little impatiently), for spring. :)

    Have a great day.

  2. You're right about the differing patterns. Sometimes they are just a pattern of cross-hatched straight lines, other times like feathers or ferns as you describe. I think we seem to see the fern-like patterns most often. Today the window (same one as in these pics) is sort of solidly frosted, with icy squiggles and doodles all over... sort of like a Spirograph™ might produce. I don't think I have seen a frost pattern like that one before. Sure is evidence of God's creative hand!

That is something about your frozen dishcloth!!! It did get cold -- just above zero here, so probably colder there -- but who knew it would be cold enough to freeze a dishcloth indoors!!

Hope your day is going well too.

  3. The frost is pretty. Our windows usually form the striaght line cross-hatched looking frost. I have to remind myself often of these pretty little pieces of winter weather because I am so ready for spring to get here. Northland winters ruined me on the cold & snow :-) And you guys have it so much worse than I do - hang in there!

  4. Mary Ann.

Thanks for stopping by to see the frost patterns! Wish you could see some of the really pretty ones we get sometimes... but feeling as you do about the cold, you'd probably rather not!

Yes, we are still in the deep freeze here. Another 6-10 inches of snow predicted for tomorrow!
