Stacking them up

During this recent bout of eldercare, I've had very little time to do any real crafting.  It's had to be mini projects that could be done in bits and pieces of time while waiting here and there.  I simply can't stand to be idle while I'm sitting and waiting, so I've crocheted.  I've made a couple of dishcloths, but mostly it has been these lovely double-thick hot pads for the table.

Recently, my friend Sandy saw me crocheting and observed that I must have quite a stack of hot pads by now.  Actually, I told her, it's not as many as one might think.  These are worked on in tiny increments of time.  I just checked to see how many I've done, and it's nine.  Only nine.  Nine hot pads for the gift stash.  Nine that I wouldn't have on hand, if I hadn't taken those few minutes here and there.

For those who may be interested in the pattern, you can find it here: Scalloped Potholder.    I will warn you, though,  that making these, trying out different color combinations with the cotton yarn, is somewhat addictive.  Here's how the ones that I have done stack up:
The ombre here is called "Freshly Pressed".
This twist yarn is called "Candy Sprinkles Twists"
The ombre here is "Cool Waters"
These include "Country Sage" ombre
This ombre is called "Lotus Blossom".
I'm sharing today with Sandi's No Place Like Home and Bernideen’s Tea Time, Cottage and Garden Blog Party.  Also linking up with Share Your Cup Thursday  and the Show and Tell Link Party at Flamingo Toes.

  3. Your hot pads are really pretty, Mrs. T.! They would look a lot prettier on the table than just a plain old trivet. You made really good use of your time and I'm sure the recipients will be happy when they receive one. Thank you for sharing and have a lovely week.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

    1. Thanks, Sandi! These make great hostess gifts. One year when we visited Nevada, I made a set of these for every family that invited us over for a meal. My daughters love these, too. They are nice and thick, plus washable since they are made from cotton yarn.

    1. Thanks, Vee! This pattern is very simple (I have it memorized by now!) and yet the combination of stitches gives it a sweet vintage look and is somewhat out of the ordinary. By all means share the pattern with your daughter-in-law, and I hope she has as much fun making these as I have had.

    1. Thanks, Bernideen! You're right -- pot holders and hot mats have a way of getting scorched and stained. It's always nice to have some fresh new ones at hand. I find these just a bit too thick for a pot holder (I even eliminate the hanging loop in the pattern) but they are perfect used as hot mats/trivets.

  8. Why thank you, Jennie! Yes, I always love to have a few handmade things like dishcloths or hot pads on hand... coasters and mug rugs are nice too. They make lovely hostess gifts or fun additions to a gift basket.
