Last of the Christmas decorating

I hope no one finds this post too boring, since Christmas is over already.  I find that it helps me when I post about seasonal decorating, because otherwise I tend to forget what I do from year to year.  This year, I actually did not put out a lot of the decorations I ordinarily do.  Several decorative signs and at least one garland stayed in the attic; I didn't bother with stockings or decorating the chandelier as I usually do.

This lighted garland above the picture window stays in place year round.  Sometimes I change the decor on it seasonally; other times it looks fine with just the pinecones and berries that are woven into it.  Always, at Christmas time, I deck it with sparkly snowflakes and icicles that can stay in place right through January.  This year, I didn't do that.  I put on one snowflake.  Then I added some fun items that I knew I would enjoy seeing and remembering during the Christmas season.  At the top of the post (and just below these words) you see an adorable chalet from my friend LJ and a sort of little basket (made from a Christmas card, I think) from my friend Ann in New Zealand.  The mitten at the lower end of the garland was one I won several years ago in a giveaway from Linda at Prairie Flower Farm.
A closer look at the chalet (it came un-assembled, so putting it together was lots of fun!)
And a closer look at the mitten with its snowflake.
Here's the opposite corner of the garland.  You see the one snowflake here.

The photo ornament was new, from our daughter this Christmas.
Below is a sweet card from my friend Susan.  I must say I got the clothespin idea from my friend Vee.
And this amazing apron card, made by Edna, was one I received in a card swap.  Isn't it adorable?

Hope you've enjoyed this look at my simple garland decor.  I'm enjoying it immensely.

  1. Mrs T, I started putting away my Christmas bling and I am telling myself I will have a simpler Christmas next year. Of course i say that every year but this year I think I mean it.:) I am sure the lights are necessary in the dark northern winter. We are supposed to have a mild winter and that is fine for me. I do not care if I see any snow.

    1. I did keep it simpler this year, Arlene. We got the tree up very late and I just didn't have the heart to put up a lot of things that would need to be taken down in a week or two. Yes, the lights are very, very necessary, for our mental well-being!

We got a lot of snow a couple of days ago. 8 to 10 inches, which was less than predicted. I did not mind that it was less!

  2. Ahhh...a kindred spirit...your friend Vee might remind you that she got her idea about the clothespin from Mrs. T. True! So many of these items can remain right there for a good while. Why do you find it odd to decorate for winter when we decorate for spring, summer, and autumn? Well, many of us do decorate seasonally. I sure do. John always thought that it was because I was a school teacher. Ha!

    1. Did you get the clothespin idea from me? I don't remember. See, that is why I have to take pictures of how I decorate certain areas in my house. I literally forget. So when I can just look on my computer and find, say, "Winter hutch 2010" or "Christmas kitchen island 2013) it helps immensely.

I'm with you, I decorate for every season (even maple sugaring season). I think it's a great reminder of God's promise of seasons in Genesis 8:22. And yes, I do think John may have been right that it could have something to do with being a school teacher, or even a Sunday School teacher. I think that's probably how I got into doing it -- although my grandmother was quite the seasonal decorator as well.

    2. Ha! I have trouble remembering everything for sure...Pinterest helps or does it hurt? Anyway, I remember now that I found this idea on one of your pins. Oh, that very accusatory "why do you find it odd"? It should have been why do WE find it odd? I have been noticing many of the wintry touches that some are leaving up...I do note with a grin that it is most of us Northern gals.

    3. Oh, now it makes sense -- both the clothespin idea and the finding it odd! On that, I assumed you intended to say "we", but I'm glad you cleared it up!

Must admit that nearly all of my Christmas decor is still up. We got the tree up so very late that I am determined to continue enjoying it for awhile!
