Just a peek at our Christmas

Just sharing a few photos of our Christmas decor and doings ... I don't want to neglect this blog completely.  I've been able to post every day over at my Christmas kitchen, so if you haven't visited there you may want to.  Link is in the sidebar. →

We ended up using both colored and white lights on our tree this year, a make-do situation that worked out okay.
The colander was a fun project I saw on Thelma’s Days.  Mine didn't come out as nice as Thelma's, but I'm still pleased with it. I hope to blog about that project tomorrow on my Christmas blog.

My December hutch is below.  I've since tweaked it a bit, and it will be tweaked even more for winter, adding glittery houses and taking away the Christmas trees, etc.

Some photos from our daughter Carrie's home on Christmas day are below.
Carrie's hot cocoa bar for this winter
A cookie tray (only slightly depleted) that I brought for Christmas dinner
 The dinner table.  So beautiful!
And then a sweet little woodland vignette on a kitchen counter.  I love this!

And our annual shopping tradition with some of our local grands happened just the Saturday before Christmas this year.  Usually we manage it earlier than that.

So,  just a peek into our holidays.  Hope yours were as nice as ours.

  1. That colander idea is sweet! I had to go tell your friend so. Your daughter’s home looks very cozy and festive. Must be that she takes after her mom. I love that you treat your grands to special times. Good memory makers! I am enjoying the lights on my tree this snowy day. I am wondering if a strand or two of colored lights would look good mixed in. I think it would!

    1. Isn't the colander such a fun idea, Vee!? I'm thinking to redo it with silver and blue balls and glittery snowflakes for winter.

I think you're right that a strand or 2 of colored lights *would* look good mixed in with your white ones. I've enjoyed ours being that way even though we didn't plan it.

Yes, we love being able to treat the grands to special times. If all works out, we will take our 2 oldest granddaughters to Nevada once school gets out -- we have companion tickets for free flights and that's a fun way to use them.

    2. Oh, and yes -- I forgot to respond to your comment about Carrie. She does indeed have a flair for making things cozy and festive. I always love seeing what she comes up with!

  2. What a lovely Christmas Mrs T. I have put away all my Christmas decor and left out a few snow men for some winter fun. Now I have to go to Chatsworth and get that Christmas tree stored away for another year. I like the start of a new year....a good time for reflection and keeping house as it is too cold to stay outside for very long. Before we know it Easter will be here.

    1. Our Christmas will be up for awhile. It was only a few days before Christmas that the tree got decorated and we are determined to enjoy it.

Yes, the start of a new year ... I like it too and I get much the same feeling in September at the start of a new school year.

    1. Thanks, Sandy. Carrie just pulled that table together with things that she already had. I really admire that. A dear friend of hers gave her the plates which used to belong to her friend's daughter.

  4. Love the pictures of your tree and that colander idea is beautiful! I wish I still had an old metal colander like that...my mother had one just like it. The Christmas table/decorations are all so pretty, and your grandchildren are adorable! What a treat to go shopping with Grandma!! That would be so lovely. Thank you for sharing with us from your heart and home. Have a Happy New Year!!

    1. Thanks, Pamela! We've been doing this little shopping tradition for about six years, I think. This was the first time for the youngest (just turned 5) to come along with us. She did pretty well. And fell asleep on the way home!

Maybe you can find an old colander at a thrift store if you really want to make one. Thelma said that she got all of the ornaments at thrift stores too.

    1. Thanks, Lorrie! It was lovely. I did feel a little bit stressed on Christmas morning, but the feeling passed by the time I got to my daughter's. We actually relaxed while there!
