Friday five for Valentine's Day

Love-ly graphic by Abby at Little Birdie Blessings
Yes, Friday has come around again!  Let's see if I can find five things to share.  Hopefully I didn't use up all of my material in yesterday's random post!

Here goes:
1.  Getting all of our paperwork submitted today toward getting passports.  We have no immediate plans for international travel, but we'd like to be able to drive to the Canadian Maritimes or other provinces.  We can also use our passports to fly to US destinations rather than getting a real ID driver's license, not mandatory in our state but recommended.

2.  Good fellowship over Sunday lunch with the pulpit supply pastor and his wife, plus another family from church.  I served Italian Wedding Soup which looked similar to the photo below from Taste of Home.

3.  Obtaining our Senior Lifetime Pass from the National Park Service.   So many perks with this!  We can't wait to start using it.

4.  A couple of coffee dates this week at The Common Man Roadside.  This is fast becoming a favorite spot of ours.  Actually, one of the dates did not involve coffee -- we got freshly squeezed orange juice instead from an amazing machine.  It's not cheap -- we shared a glass -- but such fresh orange juice is absolutely incredible.  The photo below is from Pixabay.  Maybe next time we get orange juice at the Roadside, I'll take a video of the machine.

5.  Glorious winter scenery today as we traveled north this morning to do our passport business.  It's been a gorgeous sunny day but very cold and windy.   Right now, as I'm posting this, it's 8º and feels like -9º!

Hope you all have a happy Valentine's Day and a wonderful weekend!

  1. I hope to go the advanced license for travel to the cottage in Canada. Depends on how much of a pain it is. Getting a passport was a pain, took all day, and I still didn’t accomplish it. Guess there’s really not much point as I don’t travel like you folks do. I was shocked to find that a Senior pass to national parks costs $80. Guess that’s another thing that I can lay down. You folks will use it often and enjoy it so it will be worth it. For me, I’ll pay as I go. Wasn’t it cold?! My son just brought me a bouquet of flowers. They were frozen stiff poor things. 🤦🏻‍♀️

  3. Yum, nothing like fresh orange juice, but yes, pricey. That is one reason we planted the lemon tree. My son and my daughter have very small orange trees planted in their back yards. Hoping they take off this summer for a harvest to share.
It is cold for us this weekend and the heat is running, but I always look forward to those months when you don't have to use heat or air to survive and you can save some money. I guess northerners get huge bills in the winter and we southerners get huge bills in the summer.

  4. I loved all your fives today Mrs T. Isnt it good to spend time with yonger people? I went to MOPs again yesterday as I found out they have NO mentors this year. I told them I would come on the Fridays I am not at Grimmwood. Fresh orange juice sounds delish. I finally caved in and purchased an electric tea pot for us as we are drinking a lot of green tea lately. It is much quicker and safer than heating water in the microwave.

  5. I love fresh squeezed OJ, and having lived in Florida most of my life, we kind of took it for granted. But now where we live in Florida we are a little north of the citrus area and so it isn't as easy to find fresh oranges to squeeze, or grapefruit. I miss going out to my Dad's trees and picking my own fruit. Your Italian Wedding soup looks good. I need to try a real recipe for that. I had it once at a restaurant and it was so awful I never tried it again. But yours looks like it would be good...so maybe I will try again! Have a blessed day tomorrow in church. I hope it is warming up a bit for you. We were warm this week, but now it turned a little chilly again...although today was just about perfect! It is 63 degrees right now and will only go down to 51 tonight, so that is kind of nice for a change.
