Remember those pretty colander centerpieces I shared from
Thelma’s Days, back before Christmas, where Thelma shared several colander centerpieces she had made? The Christmasy one I made using Thelma's idea is pictured at top.
At the time, I thought this idea could also be used to make a centerpiece that was "winter" and not just Christmas. Here is what I came up with:
I put this together as the Christmas tree was being undecorated. I used some new silver and gray balls bought at Walmart after Christmas,
along with vintage balls in various shades of blue and some silver pine cones which I had on hand, plus various sizes and shapes of snowflakes. I'm really quite pleased with how it turned out.
So pretty! And I'm thinking I have similar snowflakes stored somewhere in my Christmas decoration boxes in the attic. I hope I have found a vintage colander and can remember this idea come next winter. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Becki! I too hope you can find what you need (on site in your home) to make one of these next winter!
DeleteWhat a neat idea!! That really looks pretty with the lights shining through it! Great use of an old colander. I wish I had my mother's old colander like that! It was the best! I also had a friend who made a hanging light fixture for her kitchen with a metal colander! It was very pretty. I think the one she had was painted a poppy red. Just another cool idea!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pamela! Yes, having your mother's old colander would be ideal. This was one of my mother's old colanders and I have had it for years and years just waiting for a project.
DeleteYes, I have seen kitchen light fixtures made from colanders. The ones I've seen have mostly been just the plain metal but I think I did see a red painted one. My own colander (that I have had since my wedding shower decades ago) is a pretty yellow enameled one.
Your winter interpretation is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Vee! I was aware it could turn out sort of cold looking, but I like the way this one ended up.
