Wednesday Medley for November 7

This week I'm joining in with the Wednesday Medley hosted by Terri at Your Friend from Florida.  Would you like to join in also?  Just head over to Terri's blog, get the questions, then copy, paste, and answer them on your own blog.

Here are this week's questions:

What is your claim to fame?

Probably the most "famous" thing I have done is to write a book for  young people that was actually published, back in the 1990s.  Yes, I did start by writing it in longhand, though it didn't take as many notebooks as those shown below.

What is something you like to do the old-fashioned way?

Washing floors.  I much prefer to wash floors on my hands and knees.  You can see more that way.  (That said, I think -- or maybe I should say my knees think -- my days of washing floors this way may be numbered.)

What did you think you would grow out of but haven’t?

Biting my hangnails.  But there's always ....

What is the dumbest thing you’ve done that actually turned out pretty well?

NOT one of  the cakes I made; this is a photo from Pixabay
Agreeing to bake and decorate not one, but two wedding cakes.  This was many years ago.  I would never be dumb enough to agree to that today, but the cakes turned out fine in spite of me and probably due to a lot of help from my hubby.
If you had to change your name, what would you change it to?

You know, as a kid I hated my name.  I have no idea what I thought I might like to change it to.  Not sure I ever thought that far.   Now I actually like my name.
Our old dictionary actually contains names and their meanings.  This isn't it, though.
What is something random you can tell us about this week?

Oh, let's see.   I'm pretty tickled that I've been able to start a couple of handmade gifts for birthdays and Christmas.  I haven't been able to do that in a year or two.  Happily, I think my creativity is returning and I'm maybe (maybe) managing my time a bit better than I had been.

And that's it for this week's Medley!

  1. I still love to clean a floor on my knees. I agree you can get everything up so much better, but those knees creak a bit more. I know that I do it I might be a bit sore for the few days after:)

    1. I just scrubbed my tub and shower. The contortions I get into to do that task have my back really complaining. But hey ... it had to be done. My hubby says he is taking over the housework when he retires from his present job. We will see, but I'm thinking that sounds good to me!

  2. I love your name, Mrs T. And it is one of the family names that we have used many times. In fact, Charles would have been Sara if he had been a girl. My mom wanted to name me Ellen but Daddy nixed that. Then I was going to be Bonnie( My first name is Bonita). I wish they had stuck with that! But that is the parental privilege. I remind myself of that when my children told me the names that they chose for their kiddos.

    1. Thanks, Arlene! Wow, your parents must have had quite the discussions about your name. I think my parents basically named me after my great-aunt Sadie -- no idea if her name was really Sarah or not, but I think it was simply Sadie. I like my name now, but I wouldn't if it had an H.

Yes, I am with you on the names kids choose for their children. I have liked my grandkids' names all just fine, but I do get weary of defending them to my mother-in-law!

    1. Oh, I would not claim to be a wedding cake baker OR decorator! I was asked to do these two cakes decades ago, and to be kind I did them. I learned enough in the process to know I would never agree to make my children's wedding cakes!

  5. I have always loved the name Sara so I wouldn't change it either. :) I agree with you about the old timey way of washing the floor...it gets so much cleaner if the knees can take it!

    1. It really does, doesn't it? Years ago I occasionally did some cleaning with a friend, a more or less professional cleaning lady. She took me to task for doing the bathroom floors on my hands and knees!

  6. Wow! An author! Very cool. I like your name, too. If I changed mine (and I have before), I’d change it to Vee. I loathe my name. Surname is great because it was John’s. Yay for creativity! I need to find some. ☺️

  7. I love the name Sara! I grew up going to a small school with 5 Judy's in my class. Few original thinkers there, I guess.I love scrubbing floor on my hands and knees too, but since starting down the hip implant road five years ago and all the trouble I had with the first one, I'm no longer doing that. But a mop just isn't the same. Have a great evening, Sara. ☺️😘👍

    1. Five Judys! Oh, my goodness! I think there were two Judys in my high school class, but several others a bit older than me. Quite a few, now that I think about it.

No, a mop just isn't the same. Do you have a particular type of mop that you find works well for you? I am going to be in the market for one soon...

  9. Mrs T, oh I'd love to hear more about your book. What was it specifically about? And goodness, I've never baked a wedding cake. I'm sure they were tasty!

  10. Gina, I've sent you an email about the book. It's very much fiction, but one of the main characters is based on my younger brother.

I'm sure the cakes were tasty, but it was the decorating that gave me fits! My hubby mastered the art of making frosting roses and helped me out a great deal.
