Up and running

(East Branch of the Pemigewasset River -- nothing at all to do with our well, but it looks cool and refreshing)
Praise the Lord, we have water again!  It was looking a bit discouraging there for awhile.  But for whatever reason, pulling the pipes out of the well, cleaning things up a bit (sorry, I don't know the names of all the parts; there is a foot valve and who knows what else), replacing O-rings, and then putting the well all back together, solved the problem.  Mr. T thinks there was an air lock problem, probably exacerbated by the fact that the pipes from the pump to the well run slightly uphill.

So ... there is plenty of bottled water in our future, either from the store (Hannaford has gallons of spring water for only 50¢) or from a local spring.  We probably won't use our well water for drinking or cooking for another week or so until everything settles down and the bleach smell dissipates.  Thanks so much to everyone who prayed for our water situation!

  1. So glad you have water!! I grew up on a farm and I know all the joys of living with a well. And the horrors of when it runs dry!! All a part of life I suppose but so frustrating!

  2. Thanks, Arlene! It is indeed frustrating. We have an artesian well and it has never failed us (we get 10 gal/water per minute!) but the problem seems to have started with the lightning strike we had. It seems to have destroyed our water pump. But the problem of not building enough pressure in the brand new pump seems to have had to do with the well. What an adventure! But we do see God's hand in it all ... that lightning strike could have caused a serious fire and we would not have been home. I was here when the lightning hit but we left within a half hour for church. After church, we had planned to visit friends for a fireworks display, but when we began seeing all the damage that was done at home, we changed our minds. We're thankful too that Mr. T had these 2 days off and could deal with the problems. He had other plans for the time, but God knew this would happen and allowed him to be available. God is so good ... all the time!

  3. So glad to hear that you have water again. Where we live now we have town water which is a blessing but we worry about all the chemicals that they use in it.

  5. I'm so glad you have water again - there is nothing quite so discouraging as malfunctioning plumbing. We are on city water so we haven't ever lost our water supply but we have had lots of sewer issues due to trees, & a long, old sewer line. It's so sad when you can't shower, cook, or use the bathroom in your own house! So I'm rejoicing with you this morning!

  6. Thanks for all of the love, prayers, and encouragement, ladies! It is so kind of you to gather around the kitchen table and share your sweet thoughts with me.

Mary Ann -- I so agree! We were just thankful we do have an above-ground swimming pool and were able to get buckets of water from it to flush toilets. And yes, the cooking -- so thankful for bottled water, make no mistake about that -- but everything does take longer when you have to use it for cooking, making coffee, rinsing produce, etc. rather that just turning on a faucet. We're still doing that, but no complaints!
