Home again!

Good morning, everyone! It's great to be back. I hope to post again today and share a little bit about our trip. We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed our new grandson as well as our first experience traveling via Amtrak. Hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

  1. Welcome home! My dh and I just traveled Amtrak for the first time last week, and we loved it. Can't wait to hear about your trip!

  2. Thanks, Susan!

How long of a trip did you take? We were 3 nights on the train each way. It would be fun to compare notes on our trips!

    God bless,

Welcome Home! We have thought about taking a trip from California to Michigan..so it will be interesting to hear your thoughts on train traveling. I imagine it must be nice to be home, but hard to say good-bye to the family and your new grandson..rest up, and I look forward to hearing about your trip and visit.
    Blessings, Patty

  4. Hi Patty --

So good to hear from you! Yes, I hope soon to write a post (or maybe a series of them) concerning our Amtrak adventure. Of course there are pros and cons, but all in all we had a marvelous trip and would definitely do it again.

Yes, it was hard to say goodbye, but we are looking forward to seeing them again in February, Lord willing. That made it a bit easier to say our goodbyes.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to post at all tomorrow -- it looks like a busy day -- but I'll do what I can!

    God bless,
    Mrs.T

  5. We were only on the train for 8 hours each way. We're considering taking a cross-country trip from Seattle to NC for our 25th anniversary, which is 3 years away. What we enjoyed most was not having to stop for rest areas and to eat, like we would in a car, and being able to get up and move around, which you can't do so much in a plane or a car.

For the cross-country trip, we'd be on the train for 4 days, but we'd be sleeping while we were moving, unlike stopping for a hotel in a car. Did you have a berth, or did you have to sleep in your seats?!

My former pastor's wife simply can't fly (the differences in air pressure actually cause pain in her chest and ears) so she takes train trips to visit her daughter!

  6. Susan,

We had a roomette (the cheapest bedroom) in a sleeper car. It really was decently comfortable, and the neat thing is that even a roomette is considered first class, so your meals are complimentary. That was really nice. The food is quite good.

We both felt we could take one night sleeping in our seats in coach class (and might do just that another time, to save money) but not more than one!

I'm preparing a post which includes a description and a photo of the first roomette we had on the train from Albany to Chicago. Hope to get it posted tomorrow.
