Last installment of September decorating and other fall photos

Well, I have just put the last elements in place for my September decorating.  In October I'll factor in more pumpkins and leaves, but right now the leaves are just beginning to turn here.  I don't know if it's because the weather has been so warm lately, but that must be part of it since a frost is necessary to bring out the colors.  Most of our leaves are still green.
These are some of the first red leaves I've seen this year.  They are so pretty I just had to scan them.
A couple of years ago I made two window panels with some autumn leaf fabric that had been in my stash for a long time.
One of the completed curtain panels.
This is a close-up of the fabric for the top part of the panel.
And this is the smaller print that I trimmed the panel with.
Then I wanted some autumn banners to go above my windows, so the grandkids and I got to work.  I made the one you see at the top of the post, and then I just turned them loose with materials to design their own.

Kindly disregard the laundry hanging in the background!
This leafy garland is over my kitchen sink.  I liked the way the sun was hitting these leaves.
I will leave you with a picture of one of my dad's apple trees.  They are loaded with apples this year.
These apple trees have been neglected over the years, but their apples are beautiful!
More fall photos to follow in October!

  4. Thanks, everyone! It is so nice to see you all here!

Tori -- for years I didn't have much fall decor. I started collecting it here and there and now I can pretty much "shop the house" for my fall decorating efforts. If I want anything new, I usually try and make it.

Vee -- so glad you like the banners. It was a fun project to do with the granddaughters. I had intended to make all the banners like that "autumn" one, but ended up just letting them do what they liked. As I was putting up the banners this year, I noticed how their personalities were reflected in what they had done. One is neat, symmetrical, carefully planned; the other is much more creative and slapdash. Projects done with kids bring back wonderful memories every year.

And that apple tree! There are actually two of them. I can remember when my parents planted them -- and now they are huge and overgrown. Some branches have come right down to where they drag on the ground. (The trees have not been pruned for years.) I tell my dad he should have no trouble picking apples to make sauce because the apples are easily within his reach this way.

Arlene -- I'm glad you enjoyed the leaf banner and the lighting effect. I didn't do that on purpose but I did like the way it looked. My grandson Sam made a banner similar to this a few years ago and I hung it in the living room. It's staying there because I like the colors with that room. I threw this one together myself last year to use over the kitchen window.
