Another Wednesday, and I'm trying my hand at this week's topic for the Wednesday Medley hosted by Terri at Your Friend from Florida. It's National Pigs-in-a-Blanket Day (of all things!), so why not head over to Terri's and get the the questions to answer them on your own blog?
1. Typically served as an hors d'oeuvre, have you ever made or had a Pig-in-a-Blanket? Do you like Pigs-in-a-Blanket?
I used to make them a lot when the kids were younger, as a change from regular hot dogs to serve with baked beans or corn chowder. I had a recipe that used crescent rolls and I believe cheese was also involved. They were tasty! I've also made them for appetizers, using the tiny cocktail sausages (Little Smokies) wrapped in pie pastry.
2.
Pigs-in-a-blanket are also known as devils on horseback, kilted
sausages, and wiener winks. (Seriously.) Please make up another name
for this fun little appetizer!
My mind's a blank.
3. In
the UK, pigs-in-blankets are small sausages, or chipolatas wrapped up
in bacon. Which country's version is most appealing to your taste buds?
Hmm, wrapped in bacon sounds really good.
4. The first written record of pigs-in-a-blanket occurs in Betty Crocker's Cooking for Kids
in 1957. In this digital world, do you still have a favorite cookbook
you use most of the time? Is there a recipe you can share with us from
that cookbook?
I owned that Betty Crocker kids' cookbook as a child and loved it! I use lots of different cookbooks and I would be hard pressed to say there is one I use more than another, except for my own handwritten recipe collections which I store in photo albums. Most readers here have already seen many of those recipes. Check the label cloud for categories.
5. What is your favorite cooking show on TV?
Don't have one. We don't have a TV -- well, we do, but we bring it out for movies only.
6. Tell us something random about your week, please!
April 24 is also my grandson Josiah's birthday, which is even more fun than National Pigs in a Blanket Day. He turns 11 today. (Photo was taken last year on his 10th birthday.)
And so ends another Wednesday Medley!
Even more fun than National Pigs in a Blanket Day?
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Josiah!
Yep, even more fun! Josiah had a great birthday, thanks.
DeleteHappy Birthday to Josiah! My family also has an April 24th birthday. ☺️ Now, Mrs. T, “My Mind’s a Blank” is a funny name for pigs-in-a-blanket. My kids never liked them, but I liked them way too well so they were a rare menu item when they were growing up...can’t remember the last time I had any, but I’d like one for breakfast oddly enough.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the last time I had pigs in a blanket either. Years ago! My kids did like them with the crescent rolls wrapped around and a bit of cheese tucked into a slit in the hot dog. I haven't made them in probably 30 years.
DeleteThat's so fun that someone in your family has an April 24 birthday too! Mr. T's boss has a birthday on that day as well ... and if you look below, you'll see that Judy's Mr. C also has an April 24 birthday!
Wishing Josiah a Happy Birthday!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tammy!
DeleteHappy birthday to Josiah! He shares a birthday with Mr. C. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Judy! That is so fun that he shares a birthday with Mr. C!
DeleteHappy birthday Josiah
ReplyDeleteThank you! He had a great day.
DeleteHappy Birthday to Josiah!! I think my mom had that same cookbook. Have a great Wednesday!!
ReplyDeleteI loved that cookbook! I made many of the recipes from it and used it so much that it fell apart.
DeleteHappy Birthdayt o Josiah. Kendall turns 13 on the 25th. Where does the time go??
ReplyDeleteThanks, Arlene! Happy Birthday to Kendall, as well! We had a granddaughter (Josiah's sister Julia) turn 13 on the 29th.
DeleteHappy birthday to Josiah!!! I like handwritten recipes too! Loved your answers! Have a nice week!

Thanks, Lori. I hope that you had a nice week, also.
DeleteHappy birthday to Josiah!! Thanks for joining the Medley today! It has been fun reading everyone's answers and making not of favorite recipes!! Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Terri. This was a fun theme for the Medley!
DeleteHappy birthday, Josiah! The hotdogs with cheese in crescent rolls were a favorite with my kids when they were growing up. Now I make them for the grands when they won't eat anything else.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's neat that you still make those hot dogs for the grands! I haven't made them in years. Wonder if my grands would even like them?
