Adding warmth and charm to your home with needlework

Country Baking sampler "framed" with a dish towel
I so enjoy displaying needlework in my home, whether it is a project I have done or something someone else has made.  Today I thought I would share a few of my needlework treasures with you all.  I'll just put captions under the photos and call it good.  Busy day today!
Colossians 4:6 sampler
Embroidered tea towels always add a nice touch -- I made these for someone else.
Simple fall stitchery
Sorry for bad quality of photo -- I made this Hummel stitchery for my grandmother years ago.
My sampler wall in a narrow hallway -- the tall sampler is Isaiah 1:18.
I saw this saying in a catalog and made the wall hanging for a gift.
Sampler of Luke 6:38
Philippians 1:11
Psalm 73:24 -- made for a grandchild's room.
"His eye is on the sparrow" -- made these pillowcases for a gift.  Pillowcases are another nice use of stitchery in the home.
My friend Les stitched this for my strawberry themed kitchen!
Tea-time trivet made for my daughter.
Crewel wall hanging stitched for my son
2 Timothy 1:7 sampler
"Love is a shared umbrella" -- crewel design stitched for my parents years ago.
"My Mother's Garden" -- stitched for my mother
Hand-hooked picture made by my great-aunt
Schoolhouse cross-stitch by another great-aunt
Psalm 118:24 by my friend Marilyn.  What a great attitude adjuster each morning~
Hope you've enjoyed this look at some of my favorite needlework projects.  What type of handcrafts do you display in your own home?

Linking up today with Sandi's No Place Like Home at Rose Chintz Cottage.  I'm also linking to Bernideen’s Tea Time, Cottage and Garden Blog Party.

  3. I am glad you enjoyed the needlework, ladies! I treasure the ones from my great-aunts in particular. The hooked rug picture was made by my Auntie Marge, who was a hand-hooking rug expert. Even her stair runners were hooked -- they depicted songbirds, if I remember right. My aunt Bessie, who did the schoolhouse cross-stitch, was much more like me in that she enjoyed needlework of all types. She sewed, crocheted (and I think knit also), did crewel, cross-stitch, needlepoint and I believe she even dabbled in plastic canvas when it first came out. What a great crafting example these ladies were!

  5. Dear Mrs T.:
You sure have a great deal of skill and time invested in these pieces. I love to use old vintage pieces repurposed into pillows and purses. Would love to have you share at my blog party.

  6. Mrs.T, wow. Really, wow. The hours of love and handcrafted splendour on your walls is beautiful. And all the scripture samplers! Love them, love them. I don't have much on my walls at all. A byproduct of moving often I am thinking. But that needs to change. I would really like inspired walls. I haven't gotten into CCS but I did have a needlepoint lesson once. Will have to ponder my wall medium :)

  8. I embroidered a picture similar to the schoolhouse that your great-aunt embroidered. I found it recently, too, but who knows where it might be now. Embroidered pillowcases are especially nice and very appreciated as gifts, I think.

  9. Hi ladies! What a nice group has gathered around my kitchen table!

Hello Gail! How nice that we have both done the same stitchery project with the verse from Luke on it. I love doing Scripture samplers and have many more on my mental wish list.

Bernideen -- Thanks for your kind words about my projects. Thanks too for hosting your blog party and for suggesting that I join in. Lots of nice links there. I will enjoy perusing them!

Mrs. Smith -- by all means, find your wall medium. Inspired walls -- what a lovely thought. Inspirational walls sound nice too. As I mentioned to Gail above, Scripture samplers are some of my favorite things to do. I pick away at cross-stitch projects for years. I think the Colossians one may have taken me a year or so, but most of the others took several years. I don't have time to just sit around and stitch at home, so those samplers represent years of stitching in the car [with someone else driving], in waiting rooms, and so on.

Vee -- always a treat to see you here! Neat to know that we have a similar schoolhouse picture. I also have another neat, older sampler made by yet another great-aunt -- "How dear to this heart are the scenes of my childhood... ". It is dated 1935. Need to get a photo of that one.

I agree with you regarding embroidered pillowcases. A special and usually much appreciated gift -- something people wouldn't do for themselves. The past few years my mother was alive, that was a gift I did for my parents for Christmas. It was one thing I knew they would use and enjoy, and she loved it when caregivers would comment about her pillowcases.

  10. My goodness, such beautiful handiwork! Some of those cross stitch designs must have taken you months to finish, such intricate detail! I did cross-stitch when I was a teenager and in my 20s, but haven't done it for years now. I really enjoyed seeing all of your gorgeous handiwork, such treasures they all are! Recently I've done more with paper then I have with fabric and stitching. But maybe that needs to change :) Have a blessed day my friend!

    1. Thanks so much!!! Some of the cross-stitch designs actually took me years to finish. I can only work on things a few stitches at a time, due to a very busy life right now. It's frustrating at times, but I have to recognize this is the season God has me in for now.

Yes, do pick up a needle and thread. I would love to see what treasures you come up with.

    1. Thank you for your kind words, Michele. I love needlework, though I didn't really learn how to do any of it until I was in my 20s. Now there are far more projects on my want-to-do list than I will ever find time to do!

Thanks again for stopping by! Visit anytime.

    1. Oh my, Sandi, what an honor. It's been an exciting week as far as that goes! (The fun and excitement of being featured by Bernideen, and now you, has put a bright spot in my week that cancels out last Thursday's 4-hour stint in the dentist's chair!) Thanks so much for featuring my post. So much fun!

  14. Be still my beating heart....so, so many beautiful embroideries. A home is all the more cheerier when we fill it with handmade 'pretties'. I don't think I can choose a favourite, they are all in their own way beautiful. Just visiting from Bernideen's Tea Time Cottage...so happy I did.
