I shared last week about filling a jar with epsom salts, a vintage photo, glittery snowflakes and other wintry items.
When I printed out this black & white family photo
for the original jar, I had printed out two others:
but they came out too large to even consider for my project. I set them aside but they were in a location where I kept seeing them. And I began to wonder ...
You see, I have a very large glass churn that was my grandmother's. I keep it on the kitchen counter with white lights inside. In autumn, I add colored leaves to the jar, and sometimes a few pine cones.
At Christmas, I have been known to add greenery and red berries, although I don't think I have any photos of that. So I was wondering how this jar would look with a vintage photo and a few snowflakes in it. Today I finally got around to trying my idea. I left out the the epsom salt "snow" for obvious reasons.
There are two clear sparkly snowflakes |
And a silvery pine cone in there. The ribbed accents on the sides of the jar add a nice sparkle too. |

I like this one better too. We lost most of our old family photos when I was 12 and our house burned to the ground. Recently my cousin let me know she has a bunch of old photos for me! I think I will find a good one and try this too!

Thanks, Gloria! The lights add a really nice touch, I think, and I am going to try and find some tiny ones for my smaller jar. And also, as Vee suggested, take out some of the snow. I really like the photo in that one and don't want to give up on that smaller jar completely. So I will eventually be tweaking it.
DeleteThat is wonderful that your cousin has a bunch of old family photos for you! Have fun making a jar of your own!
Blessings,
Mrs. T
I need to update my memory jar as I am thinking of taking it to the little house.
ReplyDeleteNice idea, Arlene! Your little house is such a family place, a memory jar would be perfect there!
DeleteI like the jar idea. Also the pictures. Made me remember snowsuits ... leggings and the outfits we all wore in the snow back then. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joyce! Yes, the snow clothes of days gone by. For several years I remember wearing heavy melton wool (I think they were wool) snow pants. They were very thick and kept the cold and dampness out, but little balls of snow would collect on them. Today's snow clothes are much nicer!
DeleteYou nailed it! Looks fabulous...time in a bottle...errr butter churn.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Vee! (And you had me humming "Time in a Bottle" for the rest of the day!)
DeleteSeems that projects take a bit of tweaking to get them just to our taste, and I like your second try, it's really a nice touch with the lights, and I think greenery would be nice too.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed Sunday my friend :)
Thanks, Marilyn! I don't want to add real greenery as it might be iffy with the lights (being so flammable if it dries out) but I'm going to check my stash (and Walmart, if necessary) for some faux evergreens.
DeleteWhat a great idea. I love your creations!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Debby! It was one of those things that just came together quickly and easily.
DeleteYour memory jar is so sweet.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon! I like it much better than the previous attempt, but I am not ready to give up on that one, either.
DeleteI love them both, but this jar is pretty amazing!! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
