A Super-Duper Hodgepodge

Here goes with my answers for another Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce and the gang at From This Side of the Pond.  Joyce poses the questions on Tuesdays and participants answer them on their own blogs on Wednesdays.  If you've never taken part, why not join in this time?  Such a fun way to learn more about fellow bloggers.  So here we go:

1. What's the last thing you did that someone else thought was super?
Hmmm.... that is a good question.  Maybe a Shutterfly photo book that I did about my dad's life.  A lot of people really liked that.
2. The last thing you ate that tasted superb?
Maybe a Lindt chocolate truffle back at Christmas time?  Of course I enjoy good food all the time.  I'm a decent cook, and we also enjoy a potluck lunch at church every Sunday; we have a church full of good cooks.  We had a church fellowship on Saturday where the food had a tailgating theme and there were some really yummy snacks (including Vee's amazing Shrimp Dip -- click her Recipes button to access it).  So good food abounds!  But superb?  I guess I'll have to go with the chocolate truffle.
3. Supersensitive, superstitious, superwoman, superambitious, supercilious, supervisor, superficial...pick a super word from the list and tell us how it relates to your life in some way recently or currently.
That's a tough one.  Hard to pick from those.  The only thing that comes to mind is that I probably need a supervisor for my homemaking duties.  I don't seem to be doing a very good job of supervising myself or getting things done.  Too easily distracted for whatever reason.
4. Do you love easily? If you're comfortable doing so, explain why you think that is.
I would say yes.  But at times I can also dislike easily.  I think the ability to love easily (at least in my case) is completely God-given.
Wonderful felt heart made by my friend J.
5. Valentine's Day lands on a Tuesday this year. Will you mark the day in some way? If you're celebrating with a dinner out somewhere will it be on Tuesday or will you celebrate over the weekend?
I really have no idea.  We will see what my hubby wants to do.   We do have a favorite seafood restaurant less than 5 minutes from here that always has fantastic Valentine's Day specials.  So maybe we will go out that night.  He's currently on a job with a long commute, though, so he may prefer to wait for the weekend.
6. What's something you are loving right now?
I'm writing this on Tuesday and we are having a snow day.  I'm loving not having to go out and drive in it.

7 Write a three word (or less) phrase you'd like to see on a Valentine candy heart.
"God is Love."   (I think "Get Over It" may be already taken.)  This one is nicer, and I think part of a Scripture verse would be a good reminder to all of us this Valentine season.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
I cannot believe this adorable little Valentine baker is going to be 13 next month.
Or that this one will be turning 16 on the same day.

Grandchildren grow up far too fast!

  1. I've noticed with Baby M that grandchildren grow up too fast. She was tiny just yesterday and now she's scooting all over the house in her walker. I guess she'll be going off to college next week. Or so it will seem. I'm so jealous of your snow day! We get snow every 5 years or so and I love those years! I don't go out driving in it, though. People around here can't drive under normal situations and panic in the rain so... LOL I had to stop by and see who else used Super Duper in their Hodgepodge title. :) Have a wonderful Wednesday!

    1. We have a 14-month old granddaughter out West that we've not yet met other than via Skype. My daughter told me last week that she is a "full-fledged toddler" now, walking everywhere and getting into things. So that's how fast things can change!

I enjoy watching the snow fall. It is beautiful. I especially enjoy it if I don't have to drive anywhere or even walk beyond the mailbox. I just heard there may be more snow coming tomorrow!

  2. I've been wanting to check into Shutterfly. All my photos keep piling up and the longer I wait the more of a job it will be.

Cute Valentine bakers ... you're right they grow up SO fast.

    1. Shutterfly is great! I have made many photo books and several calendars, plus other fun things like tote bags, memory games, and so on. Sign up for it ... you won't be sorry. I have found that if I order from Joann.com that I often get free offers from Shutterfly. It's great when you only have to pay shipping!

  3. Sweet grandkid photos. I was thinking the same thing as I happened across a pic of one of the grands when he was little. I had to click on the Vee link because surely there is only one Vee, right? I hope you have a lovely Wednesday. I enjoyed your Hodgepodge.

    1. Oh yes, only one Vee. She's one of a kind!

Glad you enjoyed the Hodgepodge. I will have to get over there and visit yours. Thanks for visiting today and you have a wonderful day too!

  4. God is love or God loves you are excellent ideas for a new phrase. There are candy stores that have custom expressions. Another wonderful Hodge in the can!

    1. Thanks, Vee! As I've visited around at various Hodgepodge bloggers, I've seen some wonderful ideas for candy heart phrases. I've heard of those candy stores that will do the custom messages. I'm not really a fan of the conversation hearts other than as a decorative element, so have never looked into that.

  5. I wish I could send you some of our lovely weather Mrs T. Though it is cloudy, it is warm. We have a cold day tomorrow but then warm again. I saw forsythia blooming the other day...always a cheery sight.

    1. Forsythia! How wonderfully cheering that must be! Today is predicted to get into the upper 40s, which is warm for us this time of year. Then more snow is predicted for tomorrow! I'm thankful this is not a week where I have to do a lot of traveling.

  6. Why do kids have to grow up? Goes by so quickly! That snowy scene sure is beautiful, but I'm one of those who is more than ready for spring!

    1. It does go by so very quickly. I love my grandkids whatever their age, but I miss the days that used to be, I guess.

We have more snow coming tomorrow, I'm told. Very common for up here. We can (and often do) get snow right into the month of April.

  7. I love Lindt chocolate truffles too. The felt hearts in your photos are lovely and your grandchildren are adorable. I'm sure they made lots of sweet treats. Have a great week.

    1. Thanks, Pamela! Yes, that was many years ago with the grandkids. As I recall, they made strawberry spritz hearts and also heart-shaped sugar cookies. I miss those days!

That said, I also think it's very neat how the kids are now old enough to bake all by themselves!

The felt heart sugar cookies are fun to make -- and they never get stale!

  8. I think many have similar conversation heart thoughts just now : ) I am going to check out the dip recipe as I need to bring an appetizer to something on Friday. Enjoy your week!

    1. I know ... it seemed that many had some of the same type of ideas for their candy heart phrases. Each one seemed better than the last!

Hope you try the recipe. Vee says it has been a special occasion recipe in her family for many years. It is very, very good if you like shrimp!

Cute blog! Great answers! Love your picture of the snow you are having! Time passes so quickly and even more so in watching grand babies grow up. And..yes...many need to get over it and realize that God is love and only because of Him we can truly love those that are hard to love. I love vintage valentine's. I made a Pinterest board of just vintage cards. They bring back sweet memories.

    1. Thanks, Beverly! Glad you enjoyed your visit. In the spirit of full disclosure, I must say that snow picture is not from this particular storm. It's from February, but a previous year. It looks about the same, though.

I enjoyed my visit to your blog as well, and reading your answers. I'm going to check out your Pinterest boards as I love vintage cards too.

  10. You do such a good job on your hodgepodge entries...pictures and all. I'll have to step up my game.;) I think your snow picture is very pretty. I live where we have a bunch so it's nothing new to me and I do have to go out in it today. YUCK.

    1. Oh Julie, thank you. I didn't work really hard on it, just checked my files and folders for pictures that might work.

As I mentioned to Beverly above, that snow picture is from a previous February. I sort of get to the point where I stop taking pictures of the snowy landscape. It really does mostly look the same. Nothing new, as you said. Sorry that you have to go out in the snow. Stay safe out there!

  11. I enjoyed your answers! The snow is so pretty. Although it is still winter, it is the 70's here for another day! I would like one more snow and then it can be spring! The pics of your grands are precious and I can certainly relate...the oldest is 18 and just finished high school and his brother is 16 and getting his license! The other two in TN are 10 and 8 and before we know it they will be grown as well! It is a bit sad to see them grow up. :( Enjoy the rest of your week!

    1. Thanks for your visit, Debby! It's always a joy to see you here.

I hope that our snow is nearly done too, but realistically I know better. We can get snow in April and we often do!

Oh my, your grands are growing up even faster than mine. We do have 1-year-old and 2-year-old granddaughters, so some of them will be little for awhile!

      Have a wonderful week!

  12. I think the Shutterfly books are such nice keepsakes. Your family with treasure the one you made about your dad. Love your photos and I adore vintage Valentines.

    1. Hi, Karen!

The Shutterfly books do make wonderful keepsakes. I think I have made close to a dozen now on various topics, plus calendars and so on.

The one that I made about my dad, I left at the nursing home in his room for staff and visitors to read. My plan is to make more copies of that book for my grown kids and their families and my nephews and their families. I wait for free offers. So far I have made two more copies and only need a few more. I think they will all enjoy them.

Vintage Valentines are so sweet, aren't they? Did you check out my featured post about them? Fun!

I loved seeing your pretty Valentine decor, too.

I am glad you enjoyed the Hodgepodge. I find it so much fun!

      Have a great week!

These two grandkids share a birthday in early March. I think it's so neat they have birthdays on the same day!
