No place like harvest home

Just a little post today to link up with Sandi's No Place Like Home party.  It's been a busy week and weekend, but I wanted to share a little something anyway.  I thought I would share some of the pretty autumn and Thanksgiving decor from around our home, since I haven't really posted about that this fall.

I've noticed around the the net (Instagram in particular, but some blogs too) that people are decorating for Christmas already.  In fact, I visited a friend yesterday who has all of her Christmas decorations up.  She has a small place so has not overdone the decorating, and it does look lovely, but that is just not me.  I begin decorating for fall in September, then in November I add a few more Thanksgiving type things.  I tend to do more Thanksgiving decorating if we are having folks in for dinner on that day.  This year we are going to our daughter's, so I have not done as much Thanksgiving decor as I otherwise might.

Does it seem to you, as it does to me, that Thanksgiving as a holiday tends to get overlooked?  That's really a shame, because it is one of my favorite holidays and I feel that it's one of our most meaningful holidays as Americans.  (Although this year is different -- Thanksgiving is being somewhat overshadowed by election drama, yet it's also in the forefront of our thinking since our officials keep telling us all to stay home.) Really, though, we have much to praise and thank God for even in the midst of all the craziness, and those fundamental blessings do not change regardless of our circumstances.

One of the very biggest blessings that my hubby and I remind one another of every day is the sovereignty of God.  Nothing about our current situation is a surprise to Him, and He is in full control of every aspect of it.  I sincerely hope that we all are praising and thanking God each day for the liberties we have enjoyed in our country up to now, and that we are faithfully praying for our nation.

Thankful .. that says it all!
Some vintage autumn goodness.
Clay wall pocket on our porch
Pumpkin candle and holder -- a sweet gift from my sister-in-law
Vintage toy truck and jadeite mug from my childhood home!

Sweet Thanksgiving card from our faraway daughter.

And there is my simple No Place Like Home for this week. Let's cultivate the Gratitude Attitude!

  1. This was lovely, Mrs. T! I enjoyed seeing your decorations, all so special. And I agree with you about Thanksgiving being kind of overlooked. I prefer to celebrate one holiday at the time, much like you. I think they are each too special to try and run them together. But I do understand many are needing some extra "joy" this year, especially with not really feeling like they can celebrate Thanksgiving in the usual way. I hope you and your family have a blessed and wonderful day on Thanksgiving! We have much to be thankful for.

  2. Dear Mrs. T., although we celebrated Thanksgiving in October, we are still counting our blessings every day. It has been a very rough year for us here in our home but we are continually thankful for what we have and how God takes care of us. Because we celebrate the holiday earlier than our American friends, I am able to decorate for Christmas a little earlier and I am doing that because Christmas makes me happy. Thank you for sharing with us at my party and I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!

  3. I am guilty of having started the Christmas decorations a little early. Not much, but nevertheless I caved. I love Thanksgiving and never ever in my life have I put up Christmas before Thanksgiving. They are both such wonderful holidays. The thought of ending November with the the blessings bestowed on us by God is HUGE! Then beginning the celebration of Jesus. I am sad that the year has turned things upside down, but I am with you on the sovereignty of our Lord. He has this! I am giving thanks in a smaller way, but honestly I have never been more thankful than now. I do hope that we never lose Thanksgiving as an important holiday and time to stop to realize how blessed we have been.

  4. How lovely! I love autumn and Thanksgiving decor. It is my favorite holiday and I do see the rush towards Christmas. I think people are feeling so unsettled, as well they should, that they need the comfort of Christmas decor. To each her own.

    Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving!

  5. Hi Mrs T,

I'm visiting from Sandi's party. I'm loving the jadeite plates with the autumn teapot. I also have jaedite plates from my grandmother.

  6. I appreciate this post, Mrs. T. I feel very thankful - this year especially - that God is ultimately in control and who I know to trust. Your jadeite cup reminds me... I have a sweet little vintage jadeite tea set my MIL gave me many years ago. In our previous house I had a perfect spot to display it. Not so much here, but to think it's been in a box for over 20 years is a little disturbing. Not sure I'm going to pull it out any time soon, but I'm so glad to be reminded of it.

  9. Mrs T, autumn is my favorite time of year, and the colors lend themselves so well to some really homey-looking decor. The vintage touches, like the toy truck, do too!
