Favorite Ingredients Friday for June 15

This is my first time to participate in Favorite Ingredients Friday and I'm enthused about it! This week's edition features refreshing drinks, so here's my nomination for the most refreshing summer drink I know of:

CRANBERRY LEMONADE

3/4 cup sugar
2/3 cup lemon juice
3 cups cold water
1 cup cranberry juice

Combine the sugar and lemon juice in a saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved. Stir in the cold water and the cranberry juice. Pour into a pitcher and refrigerate until well chilled. Serve over ice.

Yield: approximately 1 quart

One quart of this is just not enough! I usually triple the recipe and keep it in a gallon-size jar with a spigot in the fridge. We just pour it over ice as needed.

  1. I would love to try this! Is there any chance that cranberry juice comes unsweetened? I could use Splenda for the rest of the sugar, but I can't have the sweetened cranberry juice.

  3. Ooo - that sounds very yummy. What a great way to add a bit of nutrition to your beverage. My parents buy cranberry juice - straight up - from Nature's Place at Hannafords. A little goes a looong way:) but it is very healthy. Have a great weekend!

  4. It doesn't come unsweetened, Susan, because cranberries are so very, very tart. But the kind I buy is a blend of juices and is all natural -- has no added sugar. It is Apple & Eve brand, called "Naturally Cranberry". I buy mine in Walmart.

  5. Oops, I stand corrected, Rachel! I had no idea one could buy cranberry juice unsweetened. So I guess you have a choice, Susan. Either use the unsweetened stuff and add lots more Splenda, or use the blend of juices and the amount of Splenda to equal 1 cup sugar.

Hope you do try this and that you enjoy it!
