Another Wednesday and a new month! The weeks, and the season, seem to be flying by so fast. It's time again for the Hodgepodge with Joyce and friends at From This Side of the Pond.
Head on over and get the questions, answer them on your own blog and
then on back over to Joyce's to link up!
Now, for this week's questions ...
1. Have you ever spent time on a farm? Tell us a little bit about it.
Oh, yes. I grew up right next door to my grandparents' farm. There were cows, lots of cows, a hired man, and a big red barn with a haymow and a rope swing. There were vegetable and flower gardens, a big white farmhouse with a screen porch, acres of fields and woods to explore. And much much more.
Have you ever grown your own pumpkin? Been on a hayride?
I've grown my own pumpkin! You all have seen this photo before. I'm the second from the left.
I've also been on a hayride, but that was not on a farm. When we go to fall retreats at The Wilds of New England, a hayride is always a featured activity. I skipped the hayride at the recent ladies' retreats I went to, but when we go to the couple's retreat Mr. T and I will likely enjoy a hayride together. The photo below was taken while passing through the orchard on a hayride a year or two ago.
Driven a tractor? Milked a cow?

Driven a tractor? Milked a cow?
I haven't driven a tractor, though I have in years past helped with haying. Never milked a cow. My hubby grew up on a small family farm and has done all of the above, of course.
2. What's something younger you would like about you now?
Going to have to think about this one... Most likely, the fact that I like to bake, write, and go on picnics -- all things that "younger me" enjoyed.
2. What's something younger you would like about you now?
Going to have to think about this one... Most likely, the fact that I like to bake, write, and go on picnics -- all things that "younger me" enjoyed.
1)Take a getaway with my hubby.
2) Find time to do needlework.
3) Go for long walks.
Three things you'd like to do less often?
1) Go to the dentist.
2) Deal with difficult people.
3) Vacuuming.
4. What's on your nachos?
Cheese sauce, I guess. I almost never eat nachos.
5. What's the most random thing in your purse or wallet? Does it need to stay there?
I'm going to have to check this out. Okay, it's a miniature cherry pie, maybe an inch and a quarter in diameter, made of resin. This was an accessory for one of those dolls people make with an air freshener in the base. I pitched the doll some time ago, but kept the pie as I thought my granddaughter would enjoy adding it to her collection of play food. Tucked the pie in my purse so I didn't forget to give it to her. Of course you know I forgot! That was at least a year ago, I think.
So no, of course it doesn't need to stay there. Next time I see Julia, the pie is staying with her.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
It's decently warm outside today, but freezing cold here in the house. (We've finally gotten some temps that are more seasonal, but still we resist starting the furnace, relying on the kitchen woodstove.) I will shortly be going outdoors to work on my Sunday School lesson, and/or my grocery list, in the sunshine.
And so ends another Hodgepodge ... Happy Wednesday, all! Have a wonderful week!
Yes I used to milk a little Jersey cow when I was growing up! While the farm life is not for me, I am thankful for farmers who feed me every day. And I agree, doctor and dentist visits are always anxiety producing days for me.
ReplyDeleteA little Jersey cow! How sweet is that?! Yes, I am thankful for farmers too.
DeleteWe are no where near needing heat for the house, but I am feeling a little cooler in the mornings. I am loving it. I agree with your list of more time for and less of. Beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteCooler is good! It's cooler and breezier here this week, but still sunny and relatively warm for October.
DeleteI'm with you on all 3 things you don't like to do! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteYou have a great week too, Katie!
DeleteLovely photos you have shared, I also enjoyed your thoughts especially your memories of your grandparent"s farm
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sue
Thanks, Sue. Always nice to have you visit!
DeleteWe're still running the air conditioning. I'm so over the summer temps. I would say I need to move up north but then it would be TOO cold. LOL I'm at the point now where I really would like to move out towards the country. It doesn't have to be a farm because I'm allergic to hard work (Haha) but we're so overcrowded here I'd like some peace and quiet. I love that picture of you and your pumpkin! It sounds like growing up next to your grandparent's farm was an absolute blast. :) Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteIt was a wonderful time indeed! So safe back then ... we had the run of the farm and could explore any part of it.
DeleteVacuuming is one of my favorite household chores. And, dusting.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are lovely.
I really enjoyed the pie story.
I'm glad there are people who enjoy vacuuming and dusting! I'm just not one of them. I actually enjoy cleaning bathrooms, though!
DeleteYes, the pie story. Probably not too many people have a cherry pie in their purse!
I love to hear stories and memories of those who grew up getting to visit farms...wish we could even be "thinking" about the heater...but not even close. Though we have had a couple of mornings that were downright cool. I love it.
ReplyDeleteBut by mid afternoon it is still in the 80's. Have a good day!
Nice that you've had a few cool mornings! We have had a few cool days as well, but interestingly we have not had a frost yet. Quite surprising for early October!
DeleteWow...that is SOME barn! The way you described the farm it sounds amazing...what special memories they must be for you
ReplyDeleteYes, it's a pretty amazing barn. You may well have seen it on a calendar sometime; it's been on a few! And yes, the memories ... I really need to write more of them down.
DeleteWow...that is SOME barn! They way you described you rime spent on the farm sounds wonderful...so many fond memories, I am sure! Did you scan the leaves that you included in your post? Years ago I remember doing that very thing...they are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYes, I did scan the leaves. To me that's the best way of capturing the colors and patterns. I'm not as good a photographer as you are!
DeleteLove that stone bridge!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it beautiful, Sandi? I am not sure when it was built, but a sign at the site reads, "This twin arch structure, built without mortar and sustained solely by expert shaping of its archstones, is typical of a unique style of bridge construction employed primarily in the Contoocook River Valley [of NH] in the first half of the 19th century." That's old -- and the bridges are still so beautiful!
Deleteyes i grew up in a village where valley was surrounded by lashing hills and stream flowed by while singing sweet dreamful songs!
ReplyDeletemy grandparents had two cows and many goats and lots of hens .
these are precious memories !
Oh, that sounds like a beautiful place to grow up, Baili! How wonderful that you have such precious memories of your grandparents!
