Hodgepodge for December 15

So it's the 15th of December, and time for the Wednesday Hodgepodge, in which Joyce asks the often challenging questions, and bloggers provide the answers on their own blogs.  Here we go:

1. How young is young? In the past, according to various organizations who decide these things, age 60 was the 'border age' to old. The World Health Organization has done new research recently and divided up the categories as-0-17 (underage), 18-65 (youth or young people), 66-79 (middle-aged), 80-99 (elderly senior), 100+ (long-lived elderly). Your thoughts on this particular breakdown, and also your thoughts as to where you land?

Interesting.  I find it about as accurate as most of the World Health Organization's facts these days, and not particularly helpful either.  I kind of like where I land, though -- since it places me as middle-aged.  I don't feel old most of the time and neither does my hubby.  In many ways we feel as energetic as when we were in our 40s or younger.  But our bodies often remind us that we're not as young as we used to be.   We tire more easily, for instance.

2. TIME magazine has declared Elon Musk person of the year in 2021. What say you? If you want to know more about how they choose you'll find that info in the link here. If you were choosing, who would be your person of the year?

I can't read the minds of the people at Time, and it's probably just as well.  No idea, even after reading more about how they choose, as to why they made the choice they did.   Nor do I have any idea who I would choose.  I can think of several that I wouldn't choose.

3. I read here ten habits of extremely likable people which include-they greet the world with a smile on their face, they ask questions, they're consistent, they put the phone away, they remember names and use them, they keep an open mind and don't pass judgment, they're authentic, they're kind and generous, accountable for their mistakes, and they send thank you notes.

So, are you likable-lol? Which one of these habits could use some further developing in your own life? What is one habit/quality you'd add to the list?

This is all very interesting in today's increasingly rude world.  I definitely keep the phone put away, as I still have an old-fashioned flip phone.   I tend to remember names and use them.  I try very hard to be consistent.  In fact, I seek to do each of these, but of course I fail miserably at most of them.  Thank-you notes is something I could work harder at, and also greeting the world with a smile.  My "resting face" tends to be rather serious and it comes across as sullen when I see myself in photos.  So I do work at smiling more.

4. One non-holiday related task/job/goal/dream on your to-do list that you hope/plan to make happen before the new year rolls in?

A trust-related task to sell a piece of property.  It's unlikely to happen before the new year rolls in, but I guess it could.

5. Share with us some of your holiday plans.

Well, we will enjoy a Christmas program at our currently blended church on the 19th.  We usually celebrate Christmas Eve with our two oldest granddaughters -- it may not actually be on December 24, but we will celebrate -- with a meal together, a cookie and fudge tray, and opening of gifts.   Christmas breakfast we enjoy at home, just the two of us.  We don't do gifts for one another, since we put the money we would have used for gifts into getaways throughout the year.  Memory making times are the best gifts anyway.  Usually we go to our local daughter's home on Christmas afternoon for dinner and gifts with her family.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I still have a few crafted Christmas gifts that I'd like to make.   Just ordered materials for four of them that should be quite simple.  We will see!

Joyce notes that this is the last Hodgepodge of 2021; she will return with questions for January 5, 2022.  So if you'd like to join in too,  head over to From This Side of the Pond to get the questions and link up.

  2. My default mood or face that I project has also always given people the idea I am unhappy but I never really understood it! I try to be more aware of it now though.
